Your Great Name – 07/24/18

What do Micheal Jordan, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Mozart, Martin Luther, Billy Graham, Ronald Reagan, Mark Twain, Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, John Elway, Peyton Manning, and Michelangelo have in common?  These are all names and people that you will recognize or have heard of because of great things that they did.

Throughout history many names have been great for a season, but no name but the Lord’s has been, and will be, great forever.

In Malachi 1:11 God says, “For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering for my name will be great among the nations says the Lord of hosts.”

Malachi is God’s last recorded word through His prophets before Jesus came into the world.  This book begins with an emphasis on the greatness of God, evidenced by His love. In the first chapter, Malachi warns Israel against disrespecting God by giving subpar sacrifices to Him in worship.  Malachi guides them to check their hearts.  Are they giving God wholehearted or halfhearted worship?

Malachi’s words remind us that God deserves and requires the worthy gift of wholehearted worship from a loving worshipper.  A wholehearted love for God is essential to thrive in your relationship with Him.  It’s essential to live a life deeply rooted in Him.  We give evidence of this through our actions and through worship that is worthy of His great name.

His name will be great longer than any other name will be great.  He deserves the worship of a pure offering, not of an impure one.  What kind of worship are you offering God?  How could you faithfully show your wholehearted love for God?
