12/1/18 “Why Jesus Came”

Today’s Deeply Rooted Devotion is from Luke 19:1-10.

Highlighted Verse:

“For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.” Luke 19:10, ESV

The Christmas season can be a time of happiness unlike other times in the year but it’s only a truly joyous time of year for those who have experienced salvation through Jesus Christ.  This is why Jesus came.  This is why we celebrate His birth at Christmas.  He came to seek and save those who are separated from Him because of sin.  Jesus Came on a search-and-save mission.

Jesus equips all He saves to join Him on this search-and-save mission.  Like the old children’s song, we now declare, “I’m in the Lord’s Army! Yes Sir!” Jesus was sent by the Father and He now sends us (John 20:21).  Jesus came into the world at the first Christmas and each time we celebrate His birth we are celebrating His advent, or coming, into the lives of many people.  We celebrate that He still comes into people through salvation.  To bring salvation to others He has chosen to use us.  Therefore, our advent (coming) into the lives of our co-workers, moms and dads, neighbors, friends, barbers or hair stylists, or others is a gospel advent.

  1. Praise the Lord and celebrate the advent of Jesus this Christmas.
  2. Join Jesus on His seek-and save mission by praying for others, sharing the gospel with them, and inviting them to attend your church with you this Christmas.

Tomorrow’s Deeply Rooted Devotion will be from John 5:44.
