Today’s Deeply Rooted Devotion is from Hebrews 13:20-21.
“Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20:21, ESV (italics added)
Jesus was born to live. Yes, Jesus was born to die. He came to earth, taking on flesh knowing that he came to experience the punishment for our sins through death. But, He was born to live. Hebrews 13:20 says that God brought Jesus up out of the grave, literally “brought again from the dead.”
If Jesus is able to conquer death is He not able to do a work in your life today? Of course He is! These verses tell us that Jesus is working in you that which is pleasing in the sight of God. One of the things that Jesus is working in us is to move us to draw near to God. Hebrews 7:25 tells us that Jesus lives to make intercession for those who draw near to Him. He is able to save those who draw near to God. Now, even those who know little about Christianity know that they themselves are far from good. Being perfect is beyond a long shot. So, we do not draw near to God within our own power. Jesus does this work in us to draw us to God and then intercede for us. It is when we are close to Jesus that we experience His work in our life.
Isn’t it an enchanting thing this Christmas to know that Jesus is working in you that which is pleasing in the sight of God?
- Submit yourself to the work of Jesus so that you may do what is pleasing in His sight.
- Draw near to Jesus this Christmas season. Draw near to Him today. Put yourself in a position to be near to Him by reading your Bible and seeking Him in prayer.
- Memorize Hebrews 1:1-4 with me this Christmas season.
- Confess to Jesus anything in your life that is not pleasing to Him and seek forgiveness.
Tomorrow’s Deeply Rooted Devotion will be from Mark 10:45.
